During his speech at the opening ceremony, Minister of National Education Avcı commemorated Hacı Süleyman Çakır who donated the building and wished Allah rest his soul in peace.

“Donated buildings cannot be used for other purposes”

Minister Avcı said that he also commemorated all the teachers and those who supported education who had worked in the school in the previous years and added, “This building was donated by late Hacı Süleyman Çakır to be used for a certain purpose. Our foundation tradition clearly states that donated buildings cannot be used for other purposes. There are serious warnings concerning these issues in many of the donation documents. This building might not be formally considered as a foundation asset but it was donated to the ministry in order to be turned into a school building. Due to this reason, we are trying to take necessary measures to obey the wishes of late Hacı Süleyman Çakır. We see this as our responsibility to donators.”

Minister Avcı said that he had contacted former graduates of the school during the reconstruction process and went on to say, “These former students had brought me documents showing the exchange of communications  between Hacı Süleyman Çakır and the Ministry of National Education of that period. These documents clearly reveal that this building was donated by him in order to become a school.  I would like to use this opportunity to thank all the people who have contributed to our national education.”

Minister Avcı touched upon the recent investments in education carried out in Eskişehir in the last 3 years. “48 school buildings, 796 classrooms, 9 student pension, 16 gym and 9 workshops were built in the last 3 years. Total cost of these buildings are TL 219 million 918 thousand and 873. 7 thousand and 782 teachers were serving in Eskişehir when I started my duty as the Minister of National Education. Now, there are 8 thousand and 825 teachers in the city. Eskişehir will become a leading city in education both in terms of infrastructure and human resources. There is no need for extra teachers in Eskişehir.”

“Our priority will be preschool education´´

Minister Avcı stated that the construction of the school building was completed in one year and thanked everyone who contributed to this effort.

Stressing the importance of preschool education, Minister Avcı said:

“We have to work harder for preschool education which is not obligatory in our education system. Our priority in the coming years will be the preschool education. There are some people asking why our ministry is not imposing obligatory preschool education. We have to provide school for every single child in every single part of the country when preschool education becomes obligatory. We experienced difficulties when the 8 year compulsory uninterrupted education became effective and that was the reason why we adopted the mobile education system. We have emptied the village schools and collected students in certain centers. This cannot be implemented for preschool children. Due to this reason, we will work harder and prioritize preschool education but it will not become compulsory.”

Following the speeches, Minister Avcı cut the ribbon and presented flowers to Meral Demirkazıksoy, the granddaughter of Hacı Süleyman Çakır as a present.

Eskişehir Metropolitan Mayor Yılmaz Büyükerşen, Garrison Commander General Mehmet Şanver, AK Party Eskişehir deputies Harun Karacan, Emine Nur Günay as well as CHP Eskişehir deputies Gaye Usluer and Utku Çakırözer were also among the guests of the school opening.
